What are UTM parameters?
Tags added to a URL (utm_source, utm_medium, utm_campaign, utm_term, utm_content, utm_id) that tell analytics tools where a visit came from.
Which UTM parameters are required?
Use utm_source, utm_medium and utm_campaign on every link. The others are optional.
Why is my traffic showing as "Unassigned" in GA4?
GA4 could not match your source and medium to a default channel. Use standard mediums such as cpc, paid_social, email, social or referral.
Should I use UTMs on internal links?
No. Tag only links placed outside your website. UTMs on internal links overwrite the original source and split sessions.
Do UTM links hurt SEO?
No, as long as your pages have canonical tags so tagged URLs are not indexed as duplicates.
